AI this. AI that. AI is going to take my job!
I saw it written recently that "AI won't take your job. But a human that uses it better than you, will" and it made me think. Like many people, I've been trying to get my head around AI, what it can do and how to make the most of it. But there is so much information out there. It is so easy to spend your time burrowing into a rabbit whole of YouTube videos, TikTok reels and instagram stories, digging deeper and deeper into the world of AI. But when you eventually pick your head up, what have you achieved other than a headache and blood-shot eyes?
Answer: probably nothing.
If you're anything like me, then you've probably spent so much time researching so your as informed as possible, that you've not done any work.
This is SO easy to do. With the speed at which AI is developing.
For some people, part of the headache around AI is knowing what it can be used for. I see the AI revolution as an opportunity for HR / People professionals to put the 'Human' and "Person' back into their roles. It's a chance for us to automate, and therefore reduce, certain administrative responsibilities. This approach will increase efficiency and allow us to focus on what's really important - our employees.
Despite significant progress, many employees still regard HR as the 'enemy' that only serve the interests of the company. We're enforcing policies and processes (which we're only too happy to waive for the right person) and ultimately making things difficult for employees. But AI can help that. Much of our time is spent thinking about how employees can self-serve. The creation of a People 'chat-bot' would solve so many issues. Any such chat-bot could be fed with all company policies, benefits information, application forms etc so that an employee can ask "How many annual leave days can I carry into next year?" or "I'd like to increase my pension contribution" and straight away be shown the leave policy or a form to change their pension contributions.
This bot would then free the team up to work on improving culture in the organisation, address any skills gaps or just work on further automations.
So, to answer the question "who is Claude?" - Claude could be the HR professions best friend. You've just got to embrace him, learn everything about him and how he works. The more you invest in getting to know Claude, the more he'll have your back!
